Man Arrested for Keeping Father’s Body in Freezer for Years
...to Avoid Losing Home
A 51-year-old man, Joseph Hill Jr., has been arrested after allegedly failing to report his father’s death and keeping his remains in a freezer for almost four years.
Hill was taken into custody following a police tip received on October 22, which indicated that there was a dead body in the freezer at his home.
When authorities arrived at Hill’s residence, he confirmed that his father had died nearly four years prior but refused to allow police to check the freezer.
Officers sought records to verify the father’s death but found no documentation. Instead, they discovered that Hill’s father was still listed as the owner of the home and had been receiving Social Security benefits until March 2023.
After obtaining a search warrant, police returned to Hill’s home and requested to search the freezer again.
According to police statements, Hill’s demeanor changed during this encounter, and he ultimately admitted that there would be something in the freezer. Upon searching, officers found skeletal remains, with some body parts being unidentifiable.
Hill reportedly explained that he did not report his father’s death due to concerns about not being on the deed of the house and the fear of losing his home.
In a court appearance covered by CNN, Hill’s bail was set at $25,000. He is expected to appear in court again on November 4. The case has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the father’s death and the long period during which the remains were kept undisclosed.
Authorities continue to investigate the matter as the community reacts to this shocking incident.
