Man Arrested for Cutting Wife’s Nose with a Hoe

A 50-year-old man from Eastview, Harare, has been sentenced to 36 months in prison, with 10 months suspended for five years, after being found guilty of attempted murder. This decision was made at the Harare Magistrates’ Court.

The incident happened on December 24, 2024, at about 10 a.m. The man attacked his wife with a hoe, causing a deep cut on her nose. This occurred at their home after he returned from visiting his second wife and started working in the yard.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the wife offered to help him while he was weeding, but he told her to leave. She moved to the other side of the yard, but they started arguing. During the argument, he hit her once on the nose with the hoe.

After the court’s decision, the man will serve an effective 16 months in prison once the suspended time is considered. This case highlights ongoing issues with domestic violence in the community.
