Man Abandons Newborn After Mother’s Tragic Death
A Harare man, Chancellor Chidziva, is under fire for allegedly neglecting his newborn child after the baby’s 21-year-old mother, Lisa Saidi, tragically died shortly after giving birth. Chidziva has reportedly failed to provide any support for the child, leaving Lisa’s grieving family, including her physically challenged mother, to seek help from well-wishers.
Despite multiple attempts by the Saidi family to engage Chidziva, he has only made empty promises. After impregnating Lisa, Chidziva left her in a dire situation, despite the family’s efforts to involve him. He promised to care for Lisa, but she passed away on July 6 without seeing any of those promises fulfilled.
Lisa, who had moved to Harare from Kadoma for a beauty therapy course, met Chidziva and became pregnant. Though he accepted responsibility for the pregnancy, he refused to accommodate her because he was already married. The Saidi family visited Chidziva multiple times, but he continuously delayed and avoided taking any real responsibility.
After the lodge evicted Lisa, a kombi driver found her unconscious in Whitecliff and took her to Parirenyatwa Hospital.Although Lisa reached out to Chidziva after giving birth, he ignored her pleas and failed to show up when she tragically passed away shortly after.
The Saidi family endured a five-day funeral without any assistance from Chidziva, who continued to avoid their calls and offered no support. Now, the child, who is almost two months old, survives on handouts as the family pleads for public assistance.
A close relative confirmed that Chidziva has not been forthcoming since the funeral, leaving the family to rely on charity to care for the child. Lisa’s mother, disabled and unable to support the baby, is now desperate for help. The family plans to approach the police if the situation does not improve.
As they mourn Lisa’s untimely death, her family believes the stress and hardships she faced during pregnancy contributed to her passing. They are now urgently appealing to well-wishers for any donations to help the little child survive.
