Mama Vee Tells Court He Lost Thousands in E-Creator Scam

Comedian Admire “Mama Vee” Mushambi, who once fronted the now-notorious E-Creator Ponzi scheme, told a Harare court that he too fell victim to the US$1 million online scam.
Testifying before Harare magistrate Francis Mapfumo, Mushambi said he was hired purely as a brand ambassador for promotional work and had no knowledge of the fraudulent operations behind the scenes.
“I’m a comedian who does advertising for brands on social media.
“I was on holiday in South Africa when I got a call from E-Creator’s team asking me to host a live stream for their brand activation event,” he said.

Mushambi said he even brought along other influencers, including Madam Boss, and encouraged family members and friends to join.
However, the platform later crashed before anyone could withdraw their funds.
“The money I lost was in the thousands,” he told the court.
According to H-Metro, the comedian failed to directly link the accused Zhao Jiaotong and Billy Thomas Syedou to the scam, as he never personally dealt with them.
Prosecutors allege that Jiaotong and Syedou were the masterminds behind E-Creator Economic Commerce (Pvt) Ltd, registered in January 2024 and based at Joina City, Harare.
The company lured thousands of Zimbabweans with promises of lucrative monthly returns, some investing up to US$1 000 through EcoCash.
When withdrawals became impossible in July, E-Creator claimed a “system upgrade” was underway before abruptly announcing its shutdown two days later.
A notice appeared online, naming Jiaotong as the man who had fled to China with investors’ money.
The trial continues on October 31.
Loveit Muringwa prosecuted.
