Mahere Dares Machakaire: ‘Apologise or See You in Court!’

By NewZimbabwe

Opposition politician and prominent Harare lawyer Fadzayi Mahere has fired back at Youth Empowerment Minister Tinoda Machakaire, doubling down on her allegations of his alleged ill-gotten wealth and boldly demanding an apology and retraction within 24 hours.

In a heated legal showdown that has spilled from X (formerly Twitter) into the courtroom corridors, Mahere, through her lawyers Diza Attorneys, slapped Machakaire with a scathing letter of demand.

She accused the minister of posting a “barrage of false, malicious and defamatory tweets” accusing her of academic fraud, promiscuity, and corruption.

The no-nonsense lawyer insists she has every right to question a Cabinet minister’s integrity.

Her lawyers argued that as a public official, Machakaire is obliged to answer to the public, highlighting section 67 of the Constitution which guarantees citizens’ rights to seek accountability and transparency.

“Your client posted a barrage of false, malicious and defamatory tweets in respect of our client on his X handle, @Hon Machakaire,” the letter read, dismantling Machakaire’s claim that Mahere defamed him.

In his fiery tweets between July 5 and 6, Machakaire accused Mahere of cheating her way into the University of Zimbabwe’s law program, bribery, espionage missions, and even claimed she earned a Jaguar through a one-night stand—allegations Mahere says are not only absurd but deeply damaging to her personal and professional reputation.

“Your law degree is rooted in a stinking corrupt passage to the Law Faculty… Do you want us to disclose the payment details of your paymasters, my irredeemably corrupt Humpty Dumpty advovo?” one of Machakaire’s posts read.

Mahere’s legal team minced no words, describing the statements as wholly untrue and designed to portray her as “a woman of loose morals, incompetent, corrupt, a moron and a thief,” adding that they severely undermine her credibility and public standing.

In a defiant tone, Mahere challenged Machakaire to go ahead and sue her if he dared, vowing to seek an exemplary order of costs should he pursue what she called a “frivolous and vexatious” claim.

According to NewZimbabwe, Mahere’s legal ultimatum gives Machakaire just 24 hours to retract and apologise, failing which she will launch a lawsuit claiming damages for defamation.

The gloves are off in this high-stakes political and legal brawl — and the next move is all eyes on Machakaire.
