Magistrate advises men to stop marrying on credit
A Zambian Court has advised men to desist from marrying on credit and using other people’s daughters.
Magistrate Bridget Luchendo said it is sad that the court has continued to record cases where men are in a habit of marrying on credit after which they dump women without paying bride price.
She said this in a case Innocent Banda, 35, was dragged to court by his wife, Mercy Banda, 32, for marriage reconciliation.
The couple got married in 2013 and has two children. The bride price of K7,000 was not paid. In her testimony, Mercy told the court that Innocent deserted her with their two children for another woman.
“My husband left our matrimonial house without any reasons. I recently discovered that he is married to another woman.
“I want the court to reconcile us so that we look after our children together. I cannot manage alone,” a visibly sorrowful Mercy told the court
