Local Zvishavane woman arrested for allegedly killing newborn daughter in shocking backyard burial

ZVISHAVANE – A 27-year-old Zvishavane woman was arrested for allegedly strangling her newborn daughter to death and burying the body in her backyard.
Midlands Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko reported that an incident occurred on October 27, 2024, around 1900hours in village Chakaendesa under Chief Masunda, Zvishavane.
“Allegations are that on November 2, 2024, around 10:00 a.m, Peterson Tauro, a relative of suspect Talent Sibanda heard rumors that Sibanda was no longer pregnant”.
“He then proceeded to Sibanda for inquiry, and she revealed that she had indeed given birth to a live baby girl on October 27, 2024, strangled her to death and then buried the body in the yard,” said Inspector Mahoko.
According to Inspector Mahoko, Tauro immediately reported the incident to the police who attended the scene and exhumed the body.
The body was then taken to Zvishavane District Hospital for a postmortem and Sibanda was arrested.
