Liverpool recover dominion after Burnley win. Liverpool returned to the top of the Premier League following their victory over Burnley at Anfield in front of a record crowd of 59,896 fans. The win came just a week after a shock loss to Arsenal left the team vulnerable. Diogo Jota opened up the scoring with a header that Burnley keeper James Trafford failed to keep away. The visitors levelled before the break after Dara O’Shea scored a superb header. Luis Diaz restored Liverpool’s lead eight minutes into the second half, and the points were then secured by a Darwin Nunez header from Harvey Elliott’s cross. Liverpool’s stand-in goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher made an impressive save to deny David Datro Fofana an equaliser. In a heated game, both Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and Burnley boss Vincent Kompany were booked for protesting against the officials’ decisions.

Despite being far from their best, Liverpool managed to grind out the result, taking a two-point lead over Manchester City, who briefly jumped to the top of the table with a 2-0 victory over Everton. However, with one game more played than their rivals, Liverpool remains aware that their position may soon change. Burnley, in nineteenth place, now have only three wins in the Premier League this season.

Liverpool, without first-choice goalkeeper Alisson due to illness, were also without Joe Gomez. The team showed that they can be a force to be reckoned with without their leading scorer, Mohamed Salah, who is currently out with a hamstring injury. They have won six out of eight games in all competitions since Salah’s last appearance. While the performance against Burnley may not have been their best, Reds fans will be happy that their team was able to secure the all-important win and return to the top of the table.
