Limpopo Woman Hospitalized After Being Hit with Tombstone by Boyfriend; He Tried Home Remedies to Treat Her

Mogau Letsoalo was allegedly attacked by her boyfriend, Josias Letsoalo, in Ga-Mokgolobotho Village on Saturday, October 18.
The assault reportedly involved Josias hitting her with a piece of a tombstone found near a cemetery.
Mogau’s family informed Daily Sun that Josias attacked her and then took her home to hide her from others. The couple lives in the same village.
Mogau’s sister, Prudence, 34, said they discovered Mogau in Josias’s room on Sunday, October 19. He allegedly attempted to treat her with home remedies and a makeshift drip.
The family followed a trail of blood from the street to the suspect’s home. “At first, he denied seeing Mogau. We searched his house but couldn’t find her. Then we noticed his window was open. When we looked inside, we saw Mogau lying on the floor with a swollen head,” Prudence explained.
Mogau was quickly taken to Letaba Hospital, and Josias was arrested the same day.
Prudence stated this was not the first time Josias had assaulted Mogau. “He often keeps her away from people until she recovers. Once, he even removed her gold tooth,” she said.
Mogau reportedly told her family that Josias wanted to kill her so that no other man could have her.
The anti-gender-based violence group, Tzaneen Speak Out Advocacy, visited Mogau in the hospital on Wednesday, October 22, to provide support to her family.
Miyelani Ramojela from the group said, “We are glad to see our sister recovering. We gathered with her family to offer support and prayers. We are working closely with law enforcement to speed up the legal process. GBV has no place in our society.”
Limpopo police confirmed the arrest of the boyfriend. Police spokesman Colonel Malesela Ledwaba stated, “The accused appeared in the Ritavi Magistrates Court on Tuesday, October 21. He faces charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.”
