Limpopo Police nab taxi hijacking ringleader, multiple charges laid
LlMPOPO – In a brazen daytime robbery, four men hijacked a Toyota Quantum taxi at Tswera Bridge in Mutale (Limpopo Province) making off with passengers’ belongings and leaving a trail of terror.
Vhembe District police arrested a 42-year-old man for hijacking a taxi and robbing passengers in Mutale on October 2, 2024.
Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba has confirmed the arrest of a suspect involved in a taxi hijacking near Tswera bridge where a neighbour hood watch member was shot.
“Police received information about a 42-year-old suspect on Monday which led to a intelligence-driven operation by the Thohoyandou police and Tactical Response Team, resulting in the suspect’s successful arrest in Tshiulungoma village”.
“The hijacked taxi was recovered at the Vhurivhuri-Golwe picnic campsite’s main entrance.”
“Subsequently, two suspects were taken into custody at Tshandama village in the Makuya precinct, while two others escaped capture”, said Ledwaba.
He added, “The suspect is directly tied to an attempted murder in Makuya last October and a house robbery in Ha-Tshifura village within Thohoyandou’s policing area”.
The accused is set to appear in the Makuya Regional Court shortly as investigations are still underway.
