Community Demands Justice for Assaulted Daughters

Landlord R#pes For Rent

A homeless mother was initially relieved when a 63-year-old man, known as “Madala,” offered her and her two daughters a place to stay without charge.

The kind gesture extended further as the landlord even provided food for the struggling family. However, the mother had no idea that his seemingly generous actions concealed a dark motive.

Unbeknownst to her, the landlord had been eyeing her daughters, aged 16 and 24, with ill intentions. The situation took a terrifying turn when he attempted to assault the younger daughter.

Fortunately, she managed to evade him by cleverly claiming she was part of a cultural group that forbids such acts. Unfortunately, the elder daughter wasn’t as lucky. The landlord lured her into his home, locked the doors, and forced himself on her.

Today, outraged community members and a gender-based violence group from Daveyton in Ekurhuleni gathered outside the court, demanding that the man, who was arrested on August 21, 2024, be denied bail. Laly Sikhosana, the group leader, urged residents to sign a petition, emphasizing that this man had preyed on a vulnerable family, exploiting their dire situation to fulfill his own twisted desires.

The 24-year-old victim recounted the traumatic experience, explaining that the landlord had come to check on them under the guise of concern.

He then took her to his house, where he trapped her and committed the assault. Afterward, he threatened her, warning her not to tell anyone or face dire consequences.

Fearing for their safety, the victim bravely reported the crime to the Daveyton Police Station the following day. However, the family now lives in constant fear as individuals have attempted to intimidate them into dropping the case.

The landlord appeared in Daveyton Magistrates Court, with the case postponed to September 10. The community remains vigilant, determined to see justice served.
