A 40-year-old man from Kuwadzana 1 has been sentenced to 20 years in prison by the Harare Regional Magistrates’ Court after being convicted of sexually abusing his 14-year-old stepdaughter.
In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said the case highlighted “a serious breach of trust within the family environment.”
NPAZ also stated that “the accused used intimidation to keep the child from speaking out, creating an unsafe space where she should have been protected.”

“The incidents took place between 2023 and 2025 at the family home, and the victim revealed what she had been enduring on 1 September 2025 to her mother’s friend, before later informing neighbours on 8 October 2025, which led to the case being reported.”
NPAZ said the outcome reflects the justice system’s continued focus on child protection.
“The sentence underlines our commitment to ensuring that children are safe and that any violations of their rights are addressed firmly through the courts,” the authority said.
It added: “This ruling shows that the justice system will continue to support and stand with vulnerable children who come forward.”
