Keys to Crime? Teen Helps Find Car Keys, Then Steals the Vehicle
Harare police have arrested 19-year-old Tinos Matsika for allegedly stealing a Toyota Prado at Zindoga Gazebo, Waterfalls, on April 26, 2025.
The suspect reportedly took advantage of the owner’s misplaced keys, offering to help find them before quietly making off with the vehicle.
In a statement shared on their Twitter account, the Zimbabwe Republic Police revealed that the complainant had been watching soccer at the shopping centre when he discovered his car keys were missing.
He asked Matsika for assistance, not realizing that the suspect would take advantage of the situation to steal the vehicle.
Authorities later recovered the stolen Prado and investigations are ongoing to determine whether Matsika is connected to other crimes.
Police continue to warn the public about opportunistic criminals and urge vehicle owners to be extra cautious when handling their valuables in public spaces.
