Kelly’s Lawyers Say Prison Officials Orchestrated Murder Attempt
Attorneys for disgraced R&B singer R. Kelly have filed an explosive and urgent motion demanding his release from federal prison, claiming there’s a coordinated plot to have him murdered behind bars.
The legal team is asking that the 58-year-old be moved to home detention, arguing that his life is in immediate danger.
According to court documents filed Tuesday, Kelly’s lawyers allege that three officials from the U.S. Bureau of Prisons approached an inmate with a sinister proposition: assassinate the singer in exchange for a shot at freedom.
The chilling accusation comes via a sworn affidavit from Mikeal Glenn Stine, a terminally ill inmate and self-identified member of the Aryan Brotherhood.
Stine claims the offer was made while he was incarcerated at USP Tucson in Arizona, where senior prison officials promised him a chance to escape custody and live out his final days as a free man if he killed R. Kelly.
“The threat to Mr. Kelly’s life continues each day that no action is taken,” the motion reads.

“More AB members are accumulating at his facility. More than one has already been approached about carrying out his murder.
“One of them will surely do what Mr. Stine has not, thereby burying the truth about what happened in this case along with Robert Kelly.”
The motion further argues that Kelly’s continued incarceration under such circumstances amounts to cruel and unusual punishment.
Stine alleges that after being transferred to the same unit as Kelly in March, he was confronted by prison officials who told him:
“You need to do what you came here for.”
However, after months of observing Kelly, Stine says he decided against the plan and confessed everything directly to the singer.
According to the Guardian, which first reported on Stine’s affidavit, notes that Kelly is currently serving concurrent 30- and 20-year prison sentences at the Butner Medium I federal facility in North Carolina.
He was convicted on multiple counts, including racketeering, child sexual exploitation, and sex trafficking.
This isn’t Kelly’s first claim of unsafe prison conditions. Back in 2020, while awaiting trial in Chicago’s Metropolitan Correctional Center, he was assaulted in his cell by another inmate.
His legal team argued then that the government couldn’t guarantee his safety but their motion for release was ultimately denied.
Now, Kelly’s lawyers warn that the latest revelations are even more disturbing and that time is running out.
