Karoi man sentenced to 18 months for vicious attack on cyclist

KAROI – A Karoi man was sentenced to 18 months in prison for fatally hitting a cyclist with a stone and stealing USD$600 and his motorcycle in collaboration with accomplices who are still at large.
Nomore Bandera, 28, pleaded guilty to robbery charges when appeared before the Karoi Magistrates Court.
The State alleges that on June 16, 2024, around 1900 hours, the complainant was riding his SKM 150 motorcycle along the Karoi-Kazangarare road at Brockley Farm.
Upon reaching the end of the tarred road, the complainant was obstructed by one of the accused persons who threw a stone in his direction and he swerved to avoid being hit.
The court heard that as the complainant swerved, four men suddenly emerged from the roadside and one of them struck him on the shoulder causing him to fall off his motorcycle.
The attackers demanded cash and valuables then one of the accused persons seized $600 cash from the complainant’s jacket.
The complainant managed to flee from the accused persons, leaving his motorcycle behind and then notified his brother about the robbery.They went together to file a police report.
On June 17th, at around 0300 hours, the complainant and his brother spotted the accused person riding the motorbike and followed him with the intention of intercepting him.
The accused person attempted to flee but was swiftly apprehended by the complainant’s brother.
Following his arrest, the accused person is now in custody whereas his accomplices are still at large.
