Kamativi Escapee Breaks Back Into Police Station — Steals Radio, Loots Homes
In a night that stunned police and rocked the Kamativi community, a 22-year-old man escaped custody, returned to the same station to steal a police radio, and broke into two teachers’ homes — all within hours.
Timothy Dube, of Malube Village under Chief Siabuwa in Binga, had been arrested on 7 October 2025 at ZRP Kamativi for indecent assault.
During booking, he shoved Constable Manners Edison and fled into the darkness, still cuffed on one wrist.
While officers were out searching for him, Dube slipped into the unmanned charge office and stole a Hytera MD 785G base station radio valued at US$1 000.
He then proceeded to Kamativi Secondary School, where he unlawfully entered the homes of two teachers.
From Christian Gadzira’s house, he stole a Samsung cellphone and a solar light worth US$115.
Property valued at US$154 was also taken from Trust Gwasunda’s residence.
Dube was arrested the following morning while walking along the Cross Dete–Binga Highway near Malaliya.
Police recovered all stolen items, including the radio and handcuffs.
According to the State, led by prosecutor Mr Wisdom Shava, Dube was convicted on four counts: escape from lawful custody, theft, and two counts of aggravated unlawful entry under the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act (Chapter 9:23).
The Chronicle reported that Dube appeared before Hwange provincial magistrate Rumbidzai Kabasa, who sentenced him to 18 months in prison.
Magistrate Kabasa condemned his actions, describing them as “reckless and defiant of lawful authority.”
She added, “The accused showed clear disregard for the justice system by escaping and committing further offences while still in flight from police custody.”
Although all stolen property was recovered, the magistrate emphasized that the seriousness and boldness of the offences warranted a custodial sentence.
What began as a standard arrest spiraled into a night of criminal defiance that saw Dube evade police, rob their own station, and loot homes before being captured at dawn.
