Jealous Girlfriend Allegedly Sets Married Couple and Baby on Fire in Matopo, Claiming Two Lives

A family has been shattered after a jealous girlfriend reportedly set a married couple and their one-year-old baby on fire. This horrific incident happened eight days ago in Matopo and has now resulted in a second death, according to a report by iHarare.

The husband has died from severe burn injuries at the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH), following the death of his wife, 23-year-old Melissa Ndlovu, who succumbed to her injuries last Thursday.

Their one-year-old child is still in critical condition, fighting for survival in the hospital’s intensive care unit.

The suspect, identified as Florence Ndlovu from Ntabazinduna, is wanted for two counts of murder and is currently evading police capture. The grieving family claims that the search efforts by law enforcement have been insufficient

Melissa Ndlovu’s family is heartbroken and frustrated. They believe that the Matopo police have not provided enough updates on the investigation into the tragic fire that took both Melissa and her husband’s lives.

A family member, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed their anguish: “We are devastated and want answers.

We feel let down by the Matopo Police, who we believe are not doing enough to find the suspect. We have not heard anything about what is being done.”

The family is still waiting for clear communication from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) about the efforts to locate the suspect, who has disappeared since the incident.

The brutal nature of the attack has left the Matopo community in shock. Witnesses allege that Florence Ndlovu, who was in a relationship with the husband, poured petrol on the family before setting them on fire.

Reports indicate that the incident took place at a mine in Matopo. According to journalist Ezra Tshisa Sibanda, the woman allegedly soaked Melissa, her husband, and their baby in petrol before igniting them.

“The three were taken to United Bulawayo Hospital where Melissa was pronounced dead. The husband and baby remained in intensive care,” Sibanda stated.

The couple ’s one-year-old baby is the only survivor of this tragic event. The child remains in intensive care at UBH, where medical staff are working hard to save the infant’s life.
