Inspector Mandizvidza Who Declared Self Police Boss & Stole Police Car Found Not Guilty After Mental Evaluation – A Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officer who controversially declared himself the new Police Commissioner last year has been acquitted after a mental health evaluation determined that he was not fit to stand trial.
Simbarashe Mandizvidza (35), also known as Assistant Inspector Mandizvidza, had been facing three charges, including allegedly causing disaffection among members of the police or defence forces, fraudulently procuring the use of a police vehicle, and transmitting false data with the intention to cause harm.
The case attracted widespread public attention after Mandizvidza recorded and circulated a video in which he proclaimed himself the new ZRP Commissioner.
In the viral footage, he ordered traffic police officers to cease operations and further declared that all Chinese investors should leave Zimbabwe within 48 hours.

The video quickly spread across social media platforms, sparking concern and confusion among members of the public.
Investigations later revealed that Mandizvidza had allegedly taken a police Ford Ranger under false pretences before driving to Bindura. Following a nationwide search operation, he was eventually apprehended by law enforcement authorities.
At the time of the incident, the ZRP issued an urgent internal memorandum confirming that the marked police vehicle had been taken from the Police General Headquarters in Harare.
Police units in Mashonaland East and Mashonaland Central were instructed to mount roadblocks and intensify patrols in an effort to locate both the suspect and the vehicle.
During court proceedings, the court heard that Mandizvidza required psychiatric evaluation and treatment.
Following medical assessments, the court ruled that he should be acquitted on the basis of mental incapacity.
The court further ordered that Mandizvidza be returned to Chikurubi Maximum Psychiatric Hospital for continued rehabilitation and treatment, stating that his recovery remains essential before he can safely reintegrate into society.
