“I Don’t Have the Answers. It’s Just Unacceptable,” Liverpool midfielder says After Team’s Troubling Downturn

Liverpool started the season strong, winning seven straight matches and looking ready to defend their Premier League title and make an impact in the Champions League. However, the team is now facing its worst performance in 71 years following a shocking 4-1 loss to PSV at Anfield.

The Reds have suffered nine defeats in 12 matches, a first since the 1953-54 season, and have lost three games in a row by three goals for the first time since December 1953. Alarmingly, they’ve conceded seven goals at their normally reliable home ground in just five days.

“I don’t have the answers. It’s just unacceptable,” said Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones. “I’m beyond angry now; I just don’t have the words.”

Fans are frustrated, especially after coach Arne Slot guided the team to a record-equalling 20th league title last season. Questions are now swirling about whether he is still the right man for the job.

“The defeats are piling up and making things worse,” commented former Liverpool player Stephen Warnock. “There’s a clear lack of fight, which is hard to see.”

After a rough patch of six losses in seven matches, Liverpool managed wins against Aston Villa and Real Madrid, raising hopes for a turnaround. But those were short-lived, as a 3-0 defeat against Manchester City and a similar score against Nottingham Forest left the team in 12th place and eliminated from the Champions League.

Slot faces a big challenge to restore the team to the top half of the league and keep their Champions League hopes alive. Despite his remarkable start last season, pressure is mounting due to poor performances from summer signings, including record transfer Alexander Isak, who has scored only once.

Even during the recent loss, Slot made only two substitutions, raising eyebrows among fans. “This run is shocking for everyone,” he said. “We can all do better, including me.”

The silver lining might be Dominik Szoboszlai, who provided a goal and attacking energy against PSV. Despite growing tension, former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard believes a crisis isn’t imminent but admits the team is struggling and needs to find stability.

Next up, Liverpool will face West Ham in the Premier League. Warnock noted that every player needs to return to basics to improve, while the long-term impact of the death of teammate Diogo Jota also lingers.

“This is a challenging situation, with many factors at play,” he added. Liverpool fans are eager for a solution as the situation continues to unfold. – BBC
