Honest Cop Turns Down US$4,100 Temptation
In a country where corruption often grabs headlines, one Karoi-based police volunteer has rewritten the script on integrity.
On October 15, 2025, Constable (Neighbourhood Watch Volunteer) Amos Kaitano became the talk of ZRP Karoi Rural after returning a wallet containing US$4 100 to its rightful owner, businessman Tawanda Mangozho.
Despite earning nothing for his volunteer work, Kaitano resisted temptation and handed over the lost wallet — a move that stunned many in a society where honesty is often tested by hardship.

Mangozho, 43, had visited the Karoi police camp for fingerprint clearance and only realised he had lost his wallet after leaving the premises.
“For nearly 25 minutes, I was not aware I’d lost my wallet,” he said.
“I just got a phone call from the officer-in-charge since I had left my contact details with them.
“When I arrived, I literally froze. Everything was intact. I am grateful for his actions.”
Kaitano’s selfless gesture has earned him admiration within and beyond the force. Officer Commanding Hurungwe District, Chief Superintendent Kezias Karuru, praised him for restoring public confidence in the police.
“His level of honesty and integrity is exceptional. It’s a shining example of what every citizen should do when they find lost property,” Karuru said.
According to NewsDay, Kaitano’s story comes at a time when the police force is under growing public scrutiny amid complaints of corruption and excessive roadblocks.
