Honde Valley Man Stoned To Death Over Neighbourhood Gossip

Honde Valley Man Stoned To Death Over Neighbourhood Gossip – A dispute over rumours circulating within a Honde Valley community ended tragically when Gledman Shingirai Kufahakutizwi (38) was fatally assaulted.

Manicaland police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the incident, saying:

“The misunderstanding started because of gossip, which later resulted in a fight and ultimately the death of Gledman Shingirai Kufahakutizwi of Matingo Village under Chief Mutasa.”

On 3 November, Kufahakutizwi went to confront Rufaro Madziro, accusing her of spreading rumours about his family.

“Things started as an exchange of insults but the situation escalated. Kufahakutizwi failed to control himself and poured a bucket of water on Madziro’s face. She screamed for help,” Chinyoka said.

Her husband, Webster Mwamuka, rushed to the scene and confronted Kufahakutizwi.

During the altercation, Kufahakutizwi picked up a hoe handle and attempted to strike Mwamuka but missed.

“Mwamuka, seeing the hoe handle being swung at him, picked up a stone and struck Kufahakutizwi on the forehead. Kufahakutizwi fell, hitting his head on the ground, and lost consciousness,” Chinyoka said.

The couple attempted to assist the injured man but to no avail.

Police arrested Mwamuka after a neighbour alerted officers at ZRP Ruda. Kufahakutizwi was pronounced dead at Hauna District Hospital.

Assistant Inspector Chinyoka urged communities to resolve disputes peacefully:

“Regardless of the level of misunderstanding, violence never solves anything. Report disputes to the police or community leaders rather than resorting to revenge.”
