Highway robbery ends 12- year prison term for Masvingo resident
MASVINGO-A 30-year-old Masvingo resident has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for robbing 46 passengers on a South African-bound bus traveling from Harare to Beitbridge via Masvingo.
According to State papers on December 23, 2021 the accused person and his accomplices still at large boarded a South African-bound bus at Mbudzi bus terminus in Harare, pretending to be passengers.
As the bus traveled along the Masvingo-Beitbridge road, Marange and his cohorts produced a firearm, ordering the driver to stop and utilized pepper spray to subdue the passengers.
They subsequently stole USD $16 626 and ZAR 187 000 from 46 passengers on board.
The accused was apprehended on February 24, 2022 and law enforcement officials recovered a 7.65mm CPVENA ZESTAVA pistol from his possession during the arrest.
