Highlanders Chairman, Two Senior Executives Die in Tragic Road Crash – Highlanders Football Club has been plunged into mourning after its chairman, Kenneth Mhlophe, vice chairman Fiso Siziba and treasurer Nkani Khoza were killed in a fatal road accident on Thursday evening along the Harare-Bulawayo Highway.

The three senior club officials were travelling back from Kariba following Highlanders’ 1-0 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League defeat to ZPC Kariba when the accident occurred near Lochard, about 50 kilometres from Bulawayo.

According to preliminary reports, the Ford Raptor they were travelling in allegedly struck a cow at around 8pm before sideswiping a C.A.G Travellers Coaches bus heading towards Harare. The impact reportedly caused the driver to lose control, resulting in the vehicle overturning.

A female passenger travelling with the executives also lost her life after she was allegedly thrown from the vehicle during the crash and was struck by another passing vehicle.

Kenneth Mhlophe, a retired army colonel and owner of Nokel Security, was serving his second term as Highlanders chairman. He had recently indicated that he would not seek re-election when his current three-year term expires in January next year.

Vice chairman Fiso Siziba was a superintendent with the Zimbabwe Republic Police, while treasurer Nkani Khoza was the proprietor of Totally Uniforms, a company that supplies school uniforms and related products.

Police had not yet issued an official statement on the accident at the time of publication, while Highlanders FC was also expected to release a formal statement as the football community continued to mourn the tragic loss.
