Headman’s DIY leadership scheme lands him behind bars

NYANGA – A Headman from Dzimbiti village, Nyanga was sentenced to 5 months imprisonment for illegally appointing seven villagers as Chief Solomon Mapuranga’s messengers without the Chief’s authorization.

Fungai Mushonga (49) hauled before the Nyanga Magistrates’ Court for contravening the Traditional Leaders Act.

Allegations state that from December 2023 to August 2024, the accused headman illegally appointed seven villagers as messengers for Chief Solomon Mapuranga without authorization.

The court heard that Mushonga further instructed them to acquire identity cards (ID) displaying Chief Mapuranga’s logo under false pretenses of being his authorized representatives.

He will serve effective 5months behind bars.
