Harare Women Fined Over Online S€x Service Ads

HARARE – Nine women have been fined US$30 each for unlawfully advertising massage and s€xu@l services on social media, violating the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act.
They appeared before Harare Magistrate Winfilder Tiatara, who imposed a suspended three-month prison sentence on condition of good behaviour for five years.
The women—Natasha Makowe, Anne Mandaza, Ashley Nyamutsaka, Nyasha Mungate, Gamuchirai Dzvukutu, Ellen Chihota, Miola Manyange, Euno Chiwara and Mukhtah Banda are first-time offenders, with most aged between 18 and 20.
The case drew public attention after their promotional posts, allegedly offering illicit services, surfaced on social media over the weekend.
According to police reports, ZRP Inspectorate officers—Constables Muri, Mangezi and Bushu acted on viral Facebook and WhatsApp posts that advertised massage services alongside s€xu@l encounters for US$20 per session.
The investigation led officers to 158 Greendale Avenue, Harare, where the arrests took place.
Magistrate Tiatara reprimanded the women, emphasizing that prostitution remains unlawful in Zimbabwe..
She urged them to pursue legitimate income opportunities, stressing that sustainable livelihoods should align with legal means.
The Herald reported that the women initially sought bail but later pleaded guilty, leading to an expedited sentencing process.
Authorities continue to monitor digital platforms for online solicitation cases, reinforcing efforts to curb illegal services promoted through social media.
