Dying in Harare is about to get pricier.
The City of Harare has proposed steep increases in cemetery and burial fees for 2026, with adult burials at Warren Hills Cemetery set to rise from US$275 to US$400, according to proposed tariffs now open for public scrutiny.
Non-residents and foreigners will also dig deeper literally and financially as non-resident adult burials are expected to go up from US$300 to US$450, while non-Zimbabwean burials will jump from US$395 to US$590.

Exhumations won’t be spared either, increasing from US$350 to US$525.

Other cemeteries, including Granville, Mabvuku, and Greendale, are also facing similar adjustments.
For instance, a burial at Granville A Cemetery will now cost US$330, up from US$225, while Mabvuku Cemetery’s adult burial fees are expected to rise from US$150 to US$225.
Memorial erection fees across all cemeteries will climb from US$100 to US$150.
If approved, the new charges will take effect on January 1, 2026, with members of the public invited to inspect and object to the proposals by December 1, 2025, in line with Section 219 of the Urban Councils Act (Chapter 29:15).
