Harare Teen Girl Mysteriously Loses Speech & Mobility

Harare Teen Girl Mysteriously Loses Speech & Mobility – A 17-year-old girl from Hopley Zone 6, Harare, has been left bedridden after mysteriously losing her ability to speak and walk. What began as minor speech difficulties while she was in school eventually worsened, leaving her completely unable to talk and move.

Trish Tambala, once a bright student, first showed symptoms in Grade 7 when she struggled to pronounce words clearly. Over time, her voice faded entirely, and by last year, she had also lost her ability to walk. Her mother, Ellen Ndala (42), suspects supernatural causes, as medical tests have failed to provide an explanation.

“She is my eldest of five children. This started when she was still in primary school, and by Form 2, she had to stop going to school because she could no longer speak or walk. We took her to different hospitals, and she underwent various scans, but doctors couldn’t find anything wrong with her muscles,” said Ndala.

Trish was admitted to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for three months, where specialists tried to diagnose her condition without success.

The teenager had been living in Bindura with her grandmother while attending school but moved to Harare when her condition worsened. Now bedridden, she has developed painful sores in her mouth due to a lack of proper medical care.

“I am treating her with traditional herbs because we cannot afford the necessary medicine. She can no longer eat solid foods like sadza. We feed her soft foods and liquids using a syringe,” Ndala explained.

The family is struggling financially, making it difficult to provide for Trish’s special needs. She requires diapers, soap, proper nutrition, a wheelchair, and funds for further medical tests and hospital visits.

“We are desperate. I am unemployed, and her father only does part-time jobs. If anyone can assist with medical supplies or food, we would be grateful,” Ndala pleaded.

Those willing to help can contact the family at 0771 601 943.

Meanwhile, medical expert Dr. Enock Maidah from the University of Zimbabwe urged the family to continue seeking professional medical attention, emphasizing the importance of following doctors’ recommendations.
