Harare Man Secures Protection Order Against Ex-Girlfriend Over Public Humiliation

A Harare man has obtained a protection order against his former girlfriend after claiming she harassed and publicly humiliated him following their breakup.

Tonderai Marembo approached the Harare Civil Court seeking legal protection from Sphelile Gwaze, whom he accused of persistent verbal abuse, unwanted visits to his home and workplace and an altercation at a beer hall.

He claimed she repeatedly insulted him, told his wife he owed her money, and ultimately assaulted him in public.

In his testimony, Tonderai recounted an incident in which Gwaze confronted him at a beer hall demanding payment, then allegedly tore his shirt, knocked him to the ground, and forcibly took his trousers, leaving him exposed.

“I was embarrassed and have since stopped going to that place,” he told the court.

Gwaze, however, denied the allegations, telling the court that she had only visited the beer hall once to recover money she was owed.

She argued that Tonderai had undressed himself while intoxicated and that she merely took his belongings in frustration.

She also revealed that she had been unaware of his marital status, having lived with him for two weeks.

According to The Herald, Magistrate Meenal Narotam ruled in favor of Tonderai, issuing a protection order instructing Gwaze to refrain from any further harassment or destruction of his clothing.
