Harare Gardens Reopens After Deadly Bee Sting — City Urges Public Vigilance

Harare Gardens has reopened to the public following a tragic bee sting incident that claimed the life of a man on Sunday evening.

The City of Harare temporarily closed the park to allow emergency teams to inspect the grounds and remove the swarm, which had taken shelter in a tree stump.

The victim was attacked before the city’s response unit could arrive.

In a statement issued by the City Health Department’s Environmental Health – Pest Control Section, based at Beatrice Infectious Diseases Hospital, officials confirmed that the bees were “safely and professionally removed” and that all affected areas had been thoroughly inspected.

“Harare Gardens is now safe and open to the public. Normal activities may continue as usual,” the municipality said.

The city described the incident as an isolated case involving a transient swarm seeking temporary shelter.

“Unfortunately, one person was attacked and fatally injured before the City’s emergency response team was alerted and intervened,” reads the statement.

The City of Harare extended its condolences to the victim’s family and reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring public spaces to prevent similar occurrences.

According to the Herald, the bees were not part of any managed colony, and the city does not maintain bee populations in its parks.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report any unusual bee activity to authorities.

The reopening comes with renewed efforts to ensure public safety across all recreational areas.
