Harare City Council Revives Sports Facilities in Infrastructure Overhaul

Five musicians from five different countries will tour Zimbabwe and Zambia next month as part of a cross-cultural music initiative titled Frank Salis Experience – The Zambezi Sessions.

The two-week residency will feature public concerts, collaborative rehearsals, and educational workshops in schools and cultural centres.

The ensemble is led by Swiss Hammond organist Frank Salis and includes Alex Wasily (USA) on trombone, Max Covini (Italy, based in Zimbabwe) on drums, Mr Chanx (Zambia) on guitar, and Zimbabwean vocalist Theresa Muteta.

Concerts in Harare and Bulawayo have been confirmed as official events of the Zimbabwe Jazz Festival, one of the country’s largest annual music gatherings.

According to The Herald, the initiative is backed by a network of international partners including the Embassy of France in Zimbabwe, the Embassy of Switzerland to Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi, the Embassy of Italy, the US Embassy in Harare, and Alliance Française centres in Harare, Bulawayo and Lusaka.

Organisers say the programme will focus on engaging young musicians and offering them mentorship from the visiting artists.

Alliance Française Harare director Fanny Gauthier said the project was designed to foster cultural exchange through music.

“The Zambezi Sessions is a testament to the power of collaboration. This project is more than just a musical tour, it is an opportunity to create a shared experience, celebrate our differences and connect through the rhythms of jazz,” she said.

The Zambezi Sessions will begin in September, with exact dates and venues expected to be announced soon.

Organisers say the residency will culminate in joint performances that reflect the fusion of styles and cultures represented by the ensemble.
