Guruve Grandmother Breaks Trust: Sentenced to 20 Years for R@ping Grandson

A 44 year old grandmother, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison by the Guruve Magistrates’ Court for sexually abusing her teenage grandson.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the abuse occurred twice between January and February 2025.

She tricked her 14-year-old grandson into her bedroom, claiming they needed to do household chores. Once inside, she forced him to engage in sexual acts against his will.

The situation came to light when the victim’s younger sibling told their mother what they had seen. This prompted the victim to report the abuse to the police.

Although the grandmother admitted her guilt, the court found strong evidence against her.

She received a 20-year sentence for each count of abuse, which will be served at the same time. The court stated that her actions were a serious betrayal of trust.

The justice system is dedicated to protecting children and ensuring that families are safe places. Offenders who harm children will face harsh penalties.
