Grain, Oilseed Deliveries Surge 387% Nationwide, Government Reports Major Agricultural Rebound

Zimbabwe has recorded a dramatic surge in grain and oilseed deliveries, with national intake reaching 882,230 tonnes by October 2, 2025 — a 387 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
The figures were announced during Tuesday’s post-Cabinet media briefing, marking a major rebound in agricultural output.
The total includes maize, soyabeans, sorghum, wheat, and sunflower, reflecting widespread improvements across crop categories.
Government officials attributed the growth to enhanced productivity, expanded farmer support under the Presidential Input Scheme, and favourable weather conditions across most provinces.
The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) also reported a sharp rise in its own intake, which is now 148.16 percent higher than last year’s figure.
According to SundayMail, the increase is expected to strengthen national food reserves, stimulate agro-industrial growth, and reduce reliance on imported
grain and oilseed products.
Officials said the bumper deliveries signal growing resilience in the agricultural sector and validate recent policy interventions aimed at boosting local production.
The upward trend comes as Zimbabwe enforces new regulations requiring food processors to source all grain and oilseeds locally by 2028.
