The Government says it has begun urgent steps to restore Harare’s battered road network, with Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona leading a fresh citywide inspection blitz.
This follows growing public frustration over collapsing roads and forms part of the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme Phase 2 (ERRP2), which President Mnangagwa extended last year to address years of neglect and damage caused by heavy rains.
Mhona, accompanied by senior officials and engineers, inspected roads in Braeside, Arcadia, Craneborne, Hatfield, Waterfalls, Sunningdale, Houghton Park and Southerton areas where motorists have long complained about severe potholes, poor drainage and washed-out surfaces.
He said authorities would “move swiftly” to reconstruct badly damaged roads and carry out maintenance where necessary, with more inspections scheduled this week before a comprehensive update is issued.

To accelerate repairs, the ministry has rolled out provincial hotlines for the public to directly report serious road defects, with engineers required to respond promptly.
Another public-engagement platform is being developed to strengthen feedback on road construction and maintenance.
Government says the latest Harare inspections mark the start of a renewed push to deliver safer, trafficable roads across the capital and the country.
