Government Steps in to Support Disadvantaged Pupils in Zvimba North

ZVIMBA – The government has distributed vital learning materials to 200 pupils from Great Dyke Primary School in Zvimba North, aiming to improve education in a mining community where many families struggle to make ends meet.

The initiative, led by the Minister of State for Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Marian Chombo, included the provision of exercise books, pens, book covers, and sanitary wear for girls, as reported by ZBC News.

Located in a mining compound, the school serves learners whose parents often face financial hardships. Ms. Abigail Nsingo, a teacher at Great Dyke Primary School, expressed appreciation for the timely intervention.

“We are a school in a mining area where most learners find it hard to afford learning materials. The Minister’s promise to also deliver textbooks is a huge step forward for us,” she said.

The pupils, too, shared their relief. “We were sharing one book for all subjects, so this will really help us,” said one pupil.

Another female student noted that the provision of sanitary products would encourage girls to attend school regularly, addressing a challenge that had caused absenteeism.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Honourable Chombo emphasized the need for a united effort to tackle challenges in the education sector.

“We must adopt a whole government and society approach to meet the needs of our communities. More textbooks will be made available to close the resource gap in rural schools,” she said.
