Government Shuts Down ‘Blue Siki’ Rumours in Gokwe North

The Zimbabwean government has dismissed social media rumours alleging the existence of a mysterious condition called “Blue Siki” in Gokwe North.

The reports, which gained significant attention on social media, were debunked by Nick Mangwana, Permanent Secretary for Information and Publicity, in a statement shared on Twitter.

Mangwana emphasized that there is no evidence to substantiate these claims.

In his post, Mangwana shared a video featuring General Medical Officer Dr. E. Gorekore, stationed in Gokwe North. Dr. Gorekore, a trusted medical professional in the area, reassured the public, stating, “I have not seen any case of this Blue Siki in Gokwe North.

None of my colleagues have encountered such a condition.”

He encouraged calm and confirmed that no cases of the alleged issue have been observed in the region’s medical facilities.

The term “Blue Siki” has gained traction on Zimbabwean social media, with users claiming bizarre symptoms associated with it, such as unusual skin discoloration and severe abdominal pain.

However, the Ministry of Health has not confirmed its existence.

Health professionals continue to urge the public to verify information before sharing it online.

According to reports by iHarare, the government has warned against the spread of unverified information that could create unnecessary panic.

Officials highlighted the importance of responsible social media use and emphasized their dedication to ensuring public health safety.

At this time, there is no evidence to support the presence of “Blue Siki” in Gokwe North or anywhere else in Zimbabwe.
