‘Gold Fever’ Turns to Heartbreak: Domboshava Man Loses Home Over Rumoured Gold Deposits

A glimmer of gold has turned into a nightmare for a Domboshava villager who now finds himself homeless all because of whispers that precious metal lies beneath his land.

For nine years, Itai Garwi called his Domboshava homestead home.

But last week, that life was reduced to rubble after a local strongman eyeing the same ground said to hold gold deposits ordered him out and demolished his home.

Now, with rains pounding down and his family stranded, Garwi says he’s been betrayed by the very traditional leadership that once welcomed him.

“I feel duped by the village head,” he said bitterly.

“Everyone knows the cruelty I’ve faced.

“His brother is the one who registered me in the kraal book nine years ago now I’m thrown out because of mere rumours about gold.”

Garwi has reported the matter to the police, hoping for justice.

Mashonaland East provincial police spokesperson Inspector Simon Chazovachii was not immediately available for comment.

However, police at Chinhamora Station confirmed the case has been logged under RRB 6579071.

For now, the promise of gold has left only dust, rain, and heartbreak in its wake.
