Gokwe Stepfather Charged With Murder of 4-Month-Old Daughter

GOKWE– A 30-year-old man has been remanded in custody after appearing before the Gokwe Magistrates Court on allegations of murdering his four-month-old stepdaughter.

The accused, Last Maphosa, is set to return to court on May 28 as investigations continue.

According to court documents, Maphosa was living with his 18-year-old wife, Princess Muchenje, who left her baby in his care while she rested due to illness.

When she later asked about the child’s whereabouts, Maphosa claimed he had gone to Kambasha Business Centre to buy cigarettes and left the infant with his sister.

Muchenje grew suspicious and demanded further explanation.

After repeated inquiries, Maphosa returned to the business centre before coming back home carrying the baby wrapped in a blanket.

He claimed the child had fallen asleep after consuming excessive mahewu.

Midweek Watch reports that Muchenje only realized her baby was unresponsive when she attempted to breastfeed her.

She immediately alerted authorities, leading to Maphosa’s arrest.

Police are continuing their investigations to determine the full circumstances surrounding the infant’s tragic death.
