GOKWE – A Matekenya resident under Chief Chireya in Gokwe has been sentenced to 33 years for stabbing a 25-year-old dancer in the chest with a knife at Zumba Business Centre, after accusing him of blocking his path.

Gift Chimbangu (21) at the time of the offense, appeared yesterday before the High Court sitting in Gweru facing murder charges

Circumstances are that on January 1, 2023, the accused and his friends together with the now-deceased were among the people dancing to music at Zumba Business Centre when Chimbangu accused the now-deceased of obstructing their pursuit.

The court heard that an altercation erupted between the two, and in the heat of the moment, the accused person stabbed the now-deceased in the chest with a knife, resulting in immediate death.

It is alleged that, after committing the murder, the accused person wiped the blood-stained knife on his own hair before fleeing the scene.
