FUZ Slams Yadah FC Over Alleged Dressing Room Assault on Goalkeeper

HARARE — The Footballers Union of Zimbabwe (FUZ) has issued a strongly worded statement condemning the alleged assault of Yadah FC goalkeeper Godknows Gurure by a club board member following the team’s 3–2 defeat to Ngezi Platinum Stars on Saturday.
The incident reportedly occurred inside the changing room at the National Sports Stadium, triggering widespread outrage across Zimbabwe’s football community.
According to the union, Gurure was allegedly attacked by club executive Spencer Muvadi after being blamed for conceding a late goal that sealed Yadah’s loss.
FUZ responded by demanding accountability and immediate disciplinary action from football authorities.
“We are deeply outraged by the shocking incident in which Yadah FC goalkeeper, Godknows Gurure, was physically assaulted inside the changing room by a board member of his own club.
“This cowardly act of violence is utterly unacceptable and brings shame to the game. The changing room is meant to be a safe space for players, not a place where they are attacked by those who should be supporting them,” FUZ said.
The union called on the Premier Soccer League (PSL), Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA), and other relevant bodies to investigate the matter and enforce strong disciplinary measures.
“We call on the PSL, ZIFA, and all relevant authorities to launch an immediate investigation, hold the perpetrator fully accountable with strong disciplinary action, and enforce measures to protect players’ safety and welfare across all clubs,” the statement added.
As reported by iHarare News, the incident has sparked concern among fans, officials, and stakeholders.
The publication noted that no official comment has been issued by PSL, and attempts to reach Yadah FC representatives were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
FUZ reminded clubs that players are professionals and workers who deserve respect and protection.
“An attack on one player is effectively an attack on the rights of all footballers,” the union said, standing in solidarity with Gurure and calling for reforms to prevent similar incidents.
