Fugitive Duo Returning to Zim After 2 Years on the Run

A fugitive couple accused of the gruesome murder of a four-year-old girl in 2023 is set to be extradited to Zimbabwe tomorrow, ending a dramatic two-year chase across borders.

John Zvivi and his wife, Alister Sibanda, who fled to South Africa after allegedly killing their niece, will be handed over to Zimbabwean authorities at the Beitbridge Border Post following the approval of their extradition papers.

Lawyer and businessman Moreboys Munetsi, who played a key role in their arrest, confirmed the development.

“John and Lister will be in Zimbabwe on Wednesday morning,” Munetsi said.

“Both the accused, husband and wife, are facing murder charges in Zimbabwe. We effected their arrest two years ago with Thomas Nhundu, with the support of citizens.

“Tomorrow, the Zimbabwean consulate in Johannesburg will process their travel documents, and they will be handed over to Interpol and ZRP at Beitbridge Border Post.”

The couple had been hiding in Bram Fischerville, Johannesburg, before being captured with the assistance of Munetsi and Nhundu. Their extradition efforts faced multiple delays as they fought against being sent back to Zimbabwe.

The case has made headlines in South Africa and Zimbabwe, with H-Metro among the first publications to expose their chilling crime and subsequent escape.

South Africa’s Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mmamoloko Kubayi, signed the extradition papers two weeks ago, paving the way for their return.

After their arrest, the couple hired a legal team in South Africa in a desperate attempt to block their extradition, but their efforts ultimately failed.

Last year, a South African magistrate ruled that the duo was eligible to be surrendered to Zimbabwe to face justice.

As the long arm of the law finally catches up with them, Zimbabwean authorities are preparing to formally charge the couple, who could now face the full wrath of the courts for their alleged heinous crime.
