Four ZPCS Officers Charged With Murder Following Visitor’s Death

HARARE – Four Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) officers have been charged with murder in connection with the death of Jeffreys Kandemiiri, who succumbed to injuries sustained during a violent confrontation at a government building in Harare.
The accused Nqobile Dube (23), Faith Gladman Makoni (29), Godfrey Damu (24), and Munashe Atkins Zvavambire (20) appeared before Magistrate Isheunesu Matova on Tuesday and were remanded in custody, with a bail hearing scheduled for Monday.
According to State papers, the incident occurred on March 6 at the Mgandane Dlodlo Building on Central Avenue and Simon Vengayi Muzenda Street.
Kandemiiri, who had arrived to visit his uncle, encountered the accused on the second floor after an initial confrontation with security personnel.
Following the altercation, Kandemiiri was allegedly assaulted through kicking, slapping, punching, and striking with a broomstick.
The violence escalated in the building’s basement, where further attacks took place.
Despite intervention by witnesses, Kandemiiri left the premises injured and later lost consciousness at Simon Vengayi Muzenda Bus Terminus.
He was taken home by well-wishers, but the severity of his internal injuries resulted in continued pain.
Kandemiiri died on March 14 due to complications from blunt trauma, with a forensic examination confirming severe abdominal infection as the cause of death.
