Four Gospel Artistes Found Dead in Lagos Music Studio – Nigerian authorities have confirmed the deaths of a gospel musician and three others who were found inside a music studio in the Abraham Adesanya area of Ajah, Lagos State.
The Lagos State Police Command said the incident was reported on Wednesday after the owner of the studio discovered the bodies. The deceased were identified as gospel artiste Matthew Ogundele and members of his crew, namely Itunu Ogundele, Joseph Sanya, and a blogger, Matthew Awosanya, popularly known as JoesTv.
Confirming the development, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Abimbola Adebisi, said the studio owner, Akintayo Akinbola, reported the matter at the Ajiwe Police Station. According to the police, the victims had gathered at the studio on Tuesday night in preparation for a music session linked to the programme. After purchasing food for the group, the studio owner reportedly left them at the facility and went home. He returned around 11am the following day and found the studio door locked from the inside. With assistance, the door was forced open, leading to the discovery of the four bodies.
Police sources indicated that the group had decided to spend the night at the studio after their session ran late. The programme had begun on Monday, with Ogundele scheduled to minister on its second day alongside his crew.
Reports from a Christian blog, Omojesu, suggested that the victims opted to remain at the studio due to the distance from their respective homes. The blog stated that they allegedly died in their sleep while awaiting the next day’s activities.
Images circulating on social media reportedly showed blood stains around the noses, mouths and ears of the deceased, raising public concern and speculation over the cause of death. Friends, colleagues and supporters have since taken to social media platforms calling for a thorough investigation and justice.
Police say investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
