Four Artisanal Miners Dead After Collapsing Mine Traps Them
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed a tragic incident at the Chengxi Gold Mine in Shurugwi, where four artisanal miners lost their lives on September 4, 2025.
The miners were prospecting for gold in an abandoned mineshaft when it unexpectedly collapsed, trapping them inside.

The bodies of the victims have been recovered, and transported to Gweru Provincial Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
This incident shows a concerning trend in Zimbabwe, where cases of mine accidents among artisanal miners have risen significantly in recent years.
As more individuals turn to informal mining in search of economic opportunities, the risks associated with these operations, including inadequate safety measures and unstable mining sites, have become increasingly evident.
