Former Harare Headmaster Arrested Over Alleged Abuse of Former Student

A former headmaster at a Harare school has been arrested and charged with aggravated indecent assault following allegations of misconduct involving a former student between June 2022 and May 2024.

The 52-year-old educator is accused of taking advantage of his position to engage in inappropriate conduct with the student, who was then a 16-year-old Form 3 boarder.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the incidents are alleged to have occurred at the school hostel, in the headmaster’s vehicle, and during a school trip.

“The accused allegedly abused his authority by manipulating the learner under the pretext of offering support and mentorship,” said the NPAZ in a statement.

The student, now 19, reportedly received assistance with school placement and support but later faced repeated non-consensual an@l $exual intercourse with the accused.

When the learner sought help from others in June 2024, he was advised against reporting the matter.

It is also alleged that the former head deleted evidence from the student’s mobile phone and made threats to discourage any formal complaint.

The matter was eventually reported to authorities in March 2025 after the student was expelled for asking other teachers for help with exam registration.

A police investigation followed, leading to the arrest.

The case is currently before the courts, with further proceedings expected in the coming weeks.
