Florida Man Claiming to Be “Jesus and God” Killed in Police Shootout

A Florida man who held his parents hostage for hours and claimed to be “Jesus and God” was fatally shot by police following a violent confrontation on Good Friday.

The suspect, Wayne Volz (34) had an intense dispute with his parents at their home in Fort Meade, Florida, which quickly escalated into violence.

According to ABC News and People, officials from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and Bartow Police Department reported that Volz pistol-whipped his mother during the argument.

When his father tried to intervene, Volz knocked him to the ground, pressed a gun to his forehead and ordered him to beg for his life.

Despite Volz’s claims that he was “Jesus and God,” his father, a devout Christian, rejected the statement, responding, “You’re not Jesus. You’re not God.”

Volz eventually agreed to drive his father to work at a Lowe’s store in Bartow, but stopped along the way to purchase pills, a detail still under investigation.

Upon arriving at Lowe’s, Volz’s father confided in his coworkers, who immediately hid him and called 911.

Bartow Police officers and deputies arrived at the scene, leading to a tense confrontation.

Deputy Edwin Alexander spotted Volz and ordered him to stop, warning that he would be tased if he did not comply.

However, Volz ran into a nearby building and opened fire multiple times, hitting a patrol car and injuring Deputy Alexander in his forearm.

Officers returned fire, resulting in a shootout in which Bartow Police Officer Mark Sills was also wounded.

Volz was critically injured and rushed to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Both Deputy Alexander and Officer Sills received medical treatment and were later discharged.

The case remains under investigation as authorities continue to examine Volz’s actions leading up to the violent encounter.
