Five Names, One Monster: Chegutu Man Gets 100 Years for R@p€, Robbery

HARARE – A serial offender from Chegutu who operated under five aliases has been sentenced to 100 years in prison for a string of violent crimes, including r@p€, robbery, theft, and aggravated unlawful entry targeting residents in Harare’s northern suburbs.

Isah Siyabu, also known as Blackie, Innocent Kajira, Anold Pemhiwa, Enock Kajira, and Issah Chikazamba, was convicted on 25 counts following a months-long investigation that linked him to a wave of break-ins and s€xu@l assaults in Borrowdale and Mt Pleasant.

He was arrested in February 2024 and sentenced on October 10 at the Harare Magistrates Court by Magistrate Loice Mukunyadze.

Detective Assistant Inspector Merylin Muriro, Acting Provincial Spokesperson for the Criminal Investigations Department, confirmed the conviction and sentencing.

She stated: “The ZRP confirm the conviction and sentencing of Isah Siyabu of Chegutu for multiple counts of unlawful entry in aggravating circumstances, r@p€, robbery and theft.”

Police investigations revealed that Siyabu gained access to homes by scaling precast walls and forcing entry through locked doors.

Once inside, he stole valuables such as cash, electronics, clothing, and mobile phones.

In some cases, he r@p€d victims without protection and used knives to threaten others before robbing them.

“A number of properties were targeted including cash, televisions, laptops, clothing, shoes, cellphones, among others.

“In three of the cases, he also threatened his victims with knives and stole cash and various clothing,” said Det Ass-Insp Muriro.

According to H-Metro, Siyabu’s arrest came after a tip-off led detectives to Chegutu, where he was apprehended and linked to multiple unsolved cases through forensic evidence and witness accounts.

His court appearances culminated in convictions for 19 counts of unlawful entry in aggravating circumstances, two counts of r@p€, three counts of robbery, and one count of theft.

Magistrate Mukunyadze handed down a 100-year sentence, with 10 years suspended on condition of good behaviour and another 40 years suspended for various reasons.

Siyabu will serve an effective 50 years in prison.

Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and continue reporting suspicious activity.

Det Ass-Insp Muriro emphasized: “We encourage members of the public to keep supplying information on criminal activities to help us maintain safety in our communities.”
