Five men sentenced to 6 years for Rydale Ridge Park home invasion
HARARE – Five individuals have been sentenced to six years in prison for their involvement in a brazen home invasion that occurred in Rydale Ridge Park, Harare.
Michael Nhira (43) Alexio Chinzara(39), Jealous Nyakunu (36),Victor Mubaiwa Kambuzuma, (43) and Maxwell Stanley (32) appeared before the Harare Magistrates Court facing robbery charges.
According to State papers, on June 21, 2021, the accused allegedly committed a violent robbery at the complainants’ residence in Rydale Ridge Park, Harare. The assailants reportedly tied up the complainants using shoelaces and assaulted them, demanding money and other valuables.
Afterwards, the house was ransacked, resulting in the theft of good valued at $2200.
A police report was made following the incident.
The court heard that police arrested Nyakunu during a shootout in Kuwadzana 4 on June 25, 2021, following a tip-off.
The second and third accused persons were subsequently apprehended after being shot, while the fourth and fifth accused persons managed to escape.
They were later apprehended on September 9 and October 12, 2021, respectively, following a tip-off.
