According to prosecutor Lancelot Mutsokoti, Tasiyana was employed by the bank as a manager and had been allocated a Toyota Hilux double cab for official duties.
The State alleges that on May 5, 2026, the bank instructed Tasiyana to surrender the vehicle for routine servicing and inspection. However, he allegedly failed to return the vehicle and subsequently applied for sick leave.
Prosecutors told the court that despite repeated requests from the bank for the vehicle’s return, Tasiyana allegedly did not comply.
The court heard that concerns over the whereabouts of the vehicle prompted the bank to activate its tracking system on May 7, 2026. Investigations allegedly led bank officials to a residence in Borrowdale West, where the vehicle was recovered in the possession of Lin Zhouhui.
Zhouhui allegedly produced an agreement of sale dated April 7, 2026, claiming he had purchased the vehicle for US$37 000 through Ronald Chinanga, with an outstanding balance of US$7 000 payable upon transfer of ownership.
A report was subsequently made to ZRP Borrowdale, leading to the seizure of the vehicle, which is now being held as an exhibit.
The court further heard that on May 19, 2026, Chinanga was summoned by police and allegedly stated that he had acted as an intermediary in a transaction involving Zhouhui and Tawanda Chingwaru.
Chinanga reportedly produced another agreement of sale dated September 25, 2025, allegedly indicating that Tasiyana had sold the vehicle to Chingwaru for US$35 000.
Prosecutors allege that Chingwaru later confirmed to investigators that he had purchased the vehicle from Tasiyana before reselling it to Zhouhui through Chinanga.
Tasiyana was later arrested in connection with the matter.
The Toyota Hilux double cab has since been recovered and remains in police custody at ZRP Borrowdale pending the finalisation of the case.
