Farm Killer Gets Seven Life Sentences for Mass Murder

A Free State man, Kamohelo Motankisi, 35, received seven life sentences for his brutal role in a 2022 farm massacre that left seven dead.

The sentencing took place on Thursday at the Free State High Court in Bethlehem, with Judge Celest Reinders presiding.

Motankisi, along with an accomplice, violently attacked a farm outside Kestell in July 2022, killing six women and one man.

The victims—ranging in age from 18 to 57—included Paulinah Mothoduwa Moloi, Nontwasefani Loti Smith, and Nokufa Portia Mofokeng. Two of the women were sexually assaulted during the attack.

After the horrific crime, the pair brazenly flaunted a stolen firearm on social media and targeted another farm, committing further theft.

Police spokesperson W/O Mmako Mophiring revealed that Motankisi faced a barrage of charges: seven counts of murder, multiple counts of housebreaking, two sexual offenses, and possession of an illegal firearm.

Motankisi’s partner in crime, Tseko Lerato Selepe, was sentenced to 30 years in March. Following his conviction, Motankisi offered a public apology to the victims’ families.

Lt-Gen Baile Motswenyane, Free State’s provincial police commissioner, praised the relentless efforts of the investigation team for delivering justice to the grieving families.
