Texas Family Sues Energy Drink Distributor After Teen Dies from Excessive Caffeine

A family in Texas is suing a distributor of Alani Nu energy drinks after their 17-year-old daughter died.

Larissa Nicole Rodriguez, a high school student from Weslaco, reportedly drank large amounts of the energy drink. A medical examiner later ruled that she died from an enlarged heart linked to stress and high caffeine intake.

The family has filed a lawsuit against Glazer’s Beer and Beverage, accusing the company of failing to properly warn consumers about the health risks of the product.

Their lawyer, Benny Agosto Jr., said the distributor is responsible because it supplies and spreads the drinks without clear safety warnings. He added that more companies could be included in the case.

According to the lawsuit, Larissa started drinking energy drinks after seeing them promoted on social media as healthy and energising.

The Food and Drug Administration advises adults to limit caffeine intake to 400mg per day, warning that too much caffeine—especially in young people—can cause heart problems, high blood pressure, anxiety, and sleep issues.

The case is ongoing, with the family seeking accountability for what they believe were dangerous and misleading products.
